Nikhil grew up a bright history student and scored outstanding marks in this subject since it was introduced to him in the school. But when the time came for choosing the subject after the 10th class, his father came forward and got Science since it was the subject of his choice. And after his father encouraged him to study hard for engineering and now Nikhil is one of the Engineering colleges pursuing the degree which he dreamt of. And was a young talented person was suppressed under the wishes of a father on the cost his own talent, his career and his life. This is common situation that most of the Indian students face when it comes to the decision of choosing the career. Each student has such high regards for their parents that they are ready to do everything that they would be asked to do. But the decision about the career is something that should be thought about with one’s own mind. Today, as the competition touches a new height, a person is required to be perfect in whatever field he chooses and for that he needs to make the correct choice in the very beginning of his career. Just because of the pressure of the parents and relatives one should sacrifice his/her dreams. Most of the parents want to make their son or daughter that person which they wanted to be ignoring the person that their child wants to be. And hence many students end up taking careers that they are least interested in. The critical decision of choosing the direction in which a student wants to walk in life should be solely the decision of the student himself. But there always starts a drama in every house when days of counseling arrive. Parents generally find the careers that their child wants to choose as absurd and as something that would downpour their reputation in the society. This happen mostly due to the generation gap. Today there is a wide range of careers to choose from and there are people who find their interest and talent in these new careers irrespective of what position that line holds in the society because they are made for that job only. And if they were forced to do some other job, then they would never be able to excel in that job easily. Hence parents today need to understand the capabilities and the dreams of their children and help them realize their dreams without caring about their own gain.
